PM Modi-Biden Phone Call Focuses on Ukraine, Safety of Hindus in Bangladesh

Published:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a call from US President Joe Biden today, discussing various international issues, including PM Modi’s recent visit to Ukraine and the current situation in Bangladesh.

During their conversation, PM Modi reiterated India’s firm stance on resolving the conflict in Ukraine through dialogue and diplomacy. He expressed India’s full support for the swift restoration of peace and stability in the region. PM Modi’s recent visit to Ukraine marked the first by an Indian prime minister, where he emphasized India’s call for a diplomatic solution to the ongoing war with Russia. “We have taken a side, and we stand firmly for peace,” Modi told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Another topic of concern in the phone call was the situation in Bangladesh. Both leaders shared their worries over the deteriorating law and order situation and the safety of minority communities, especially Hindus, in the wake of political upheaval. The Indian government has raised alarms about the attacks on Bangladesh’s Hindu minority following the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina’s government. Bangladesh’s interim administration has committed to restoring law and order while ensuring the protection of all minority groups.

In addition to these international concerns, PM Modi and President Biden reviewed the progress made in strengthening India-US relations. They reaffirmed their partnership’s goal of benefiting both countries’ citizens and contributing positively to global well-being.
