Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’ Roars Globally, Defying Mixed Reviews

Published:

In a surprising global triumph, Ranbir Kapoor’s film “Animal” continues to dominate the box office, defying diverse critical opinions. Following a robust opening weekend, the movie stands strong in its second week, accumulating an impressive Rs 37 crore on Saturday, as per data from industry tracker Sacnilk.

The film’s cumulative domestic earnings have now skyrocketed to an astonishing Rs 398.53 crore. Notably, on Saturday, the overall Hindi occupancy rate reached 49.12%, with night shows contributing significantly at 62.29% of Hindi screenings. Additionally, the film demonstrated success with occupancy rates of 40.36% in Telugu and 33.25% in Tamil. Globally, “Animal” has crossed the coveted Rs 600 crore milestone.

Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s creation has not only surpassed the lifetime earnings of Salman Khan’s “Tiger Zinda Hai” but has also secured a position in the top 10 list of all-time highest-grossing movies worldwide. Although it hasn’t yet eclipsed the earnings of the highest-grossing Indian film of 2023, Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan,” which earned Rs 464.8 Cr in its first week, “Animal” still impressively earned Rs 337.58 Cr. Noteworthy is its outperformance of other big-budget releases in the first week, including SRK’s “Pathaan” (Rs 318.50 crore) and Sunny Deol’s “Gadar 2” (Rs 284.63 crore). “Animal” even surpassed the domestic earnings of the highest-grossing movie of all time, “Dangal,” which made Rs 387.38 crore upon its 2016 release.

Featuring Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, and Anil Kapoor in significant roles, “Animal” is poised to maintain its global success until Shah Rukh Khan’s “Dunki” hits theaters on December 21. However, potential competition looms from Prabhas’ “Salaar,” also scheduled for release on the same day, especially in the southern states.

Rashmika Mandanna, a key figure in the film, recently defended “Animal” on social media, providing insights into her character Gitanjali. She expressed, “She is pure, real, unfiltered, strong, and raw… As an actor, I would question some of Gitanjali’s actions, and I remember my director telling me – this was their story, Ranvijay’s & Gitanjali’s. It was their love and passion, their families, and their lives – this is who they are.” Despite facing criticism for allegedly glorifying toxic masculinity and being excessively violent and gory, “Animal” continues to captivate audiences globally.
